Majorlândia
is a fishermen’s village located 12 km from the Aracati town, head
of the municipality.
The village was founded in 1937 by the Major Bruno da Silva Figueiredo
(Majorlândia = "Land of the Major").
Palm trees and white, red or ochre cliffs dominate the Majorlândia
beach. The fishermen’s "jangadas" moored along the beach
are in harmony with the beauty of the place.
Surfers can take advantage of strong and constant waves.
During the Carnival, the beach welcomes the blocks of Aracati during the
day.
(Carnival blocks: organized costumed groups parading and playing drums,
trumpets, etc.)
Majorlândia claims the origin of the famous bottles filled
of coloured sand designed by the local craftsmen.
The giant sculptures carved into the cliffs by the
artist Toinho Carneiro is also a popular attraction of the Majorlândia beach.
Majorlândia has an infrastructure to receive the visitors: simple
but welcoming “pousadas” (hotels), bars and restaurants offering
a rich choice of fish and seafood dishes.
